When starting an affiliate business there’s a lot to think about and it’s easy to rush through some of the many steps. One important step that you really shouldn’t rush through is picking a domain name. There are a few things you should think about when choosing name and to help you out we’ll guide you through some ways of thinking when you are at this critical moment.
No Mix-Matching!
If you want your visitors to find your website in an easy manner you have to make sure that your domain name matches the name of your site. After a while your readers will become familiar with your site and if the names don’t match you risk the chance of losing them since there is a big risk that they won’t remember what your domain name was.
To check out if a domain name is available you can use free registry tools that can be found on the web. Try to come up with something that stands out in the crowd. Don’t pick a complicated name as you probably will lose your memorability if you do so. This is also important since you want people to talk about your site, and they are less likely to do that if you have an overly complicated name.
Target Keywords
If you want a high ranking in the search engines and a lot of traffic to your site – use target keywords in your domain name. Try to come up with the most important keywords in the segment you’re active and then try implant one or two of them in the domain name.
Having keywords in your domain name and making it into a quality name might be difficult as many of the best names already are taken. Pick up a pen and stencil and start brainstorming – eventually you’ll come up with something good.
Short is Good
Many people make the mistake of registering way too long domain names. Keep it short as this is easier for the user to spell and it will probably increase your traffic as they’ll remember what is was. With this said you should never sacrifice the memorability or branding just to keep the name short.
For example, if you have a site that is called Golf Experts you should try to get the domain name GolfExperts.com rather than something like GoExperts.com. Maybe not the best example but we hope you get the idea. Try to find a good balance between brevity and branding.
