How to Find a Work at Home Opportunity, Not a Scam
Let's face it, people work outside of the home because they don't feel they have any other options. They've heard the stories of the many men and women who have been scammed and are afraid they will be, too. You can find a work at home opportunity; it's all in knowing where to look. It would be silly to say that all work at home opportunities are on the up-and-up. Unfortunately it seems there are more online scams than legitimate opportunities. But there are still plenty of places to search online for legitimate work at home opportunities. Before jumping headlong into finding the perfect work at home opportunity, begin by doing some research. Head over to your favorite search engine and type in "online work from home scams" and you'll find page after page of ways to recognize online scams, how to avoid online scams, and what to do if you fall for online scams. Take the time to do some homework and find out how to recognize the "false" work from home opportunities before you go looking for the legitimate ways to make money from home. If you're in a hurry to avoid a scam without doing your homework, here are three sure-fire ways to recognize one: 1. If it sounds too good to be true, it most likely is. This means that you can't believe everything you read in online sales pitches. If they promise you you'll make a ton of money with little or no work, steer clear of it. Jobs stuffing envelopes or painting craft figures will NOT make you money from home. The only thing they will do for you is take your money (they usually require a fee to start) and waste your time. Your work will never be good enough or fast enough, so you won't be paid. 2. Be careful when payment is required. This isn't to say that you should never pay a fee of any kind, but that you want to be very careful when shelling out money for an opportunity. Read the sales pitch thoroughly and see if there is a physical product you'll be selling, or if you'll be trying to "sucker" other people. There are some good programs out there and usually for a small fee, they will show you how to successfully work from home for other online companies. 3. Perhaps you'll find something that sounds good. Be wise and do some checking before signing up. Find a physical address of the company in question. Then go to the Better Business Bureau in that city and check to see if they've had any complaints. If they check out, call and ask if you can get some names and telephone numbers for people in the business. If they are legitimate, they shouldn't hesitate to give you more information. After you can readily recognize a scam, you can go to one of the many online directories to search for a work at home opportunity that meets your needs and your interests. Find some work at home forums and sign up. Ask around to see what luck others have had in finding a work at home opportunity. You may also find information about which companies and opportunities to avoid based on other people's experiences. Don't think that finding a work at home opportunity is a lost cause. There are legitimate ways to make money online while working from home. Determine what your skills are, what time you have available to work from home right now (don't quit a full-time job until you are making enough money at home to replace what you're currently paid), and then do your homework. If you truly want a work at home opportunity, for whatever the reason, you can find one with a little bit of homework, time, and effort. Then, when you find it, you'll be able to rest assured knowing that the opportunity is legitimate and will meet your work from home requirements.

Work from Home as an Independent Contractor
Finding a work at home job is ideal for many people because they can break free of the corporate rat race. They can become their own bosses, set their own hours, and don't have to be tied to just one company. An independent contractor is a fancy word for freelancer. You are independent because a company hires you on a per project basis and does not have to pay your medical benefits, vacation time, or taxes. They do not supply you office space or supplies and the company only pays for work that you have completed. Even if a work at home company hires you on a long-term basis, you are still an independent contractor rather than an employee. There are numerous companies that hire independent contractors who work from home. The most popular work at home jobs involve data entry, typing, multi-level marketing, and customer support at telephone call centers. Because of their popularity, there is a lot of competition from other work at home candidates. If you choose to work from home as an independent contractor, you need to pay your own taxes on the money you make. You won't necessarily get tax statements from your company unless you have earned a certain amount of money, so accurate record keeping is imperative. Not reporting your income puts you at risk of having the IRS audit your return and possibly paying severe penalties. Depending on which work at home job you choose, your company may not have enough work to give you full time hours. If you want to earn a full time income, you may apply for multiple work at home jobs. As an independent contractor, there is no limit to the number of companies for which you work. Doing work for multiple companies may fill up your bank account but scheduling then becomes more important. Missing deadlines is a black mark on your record and you risk losing more work if you are continually late. Remember that there are hundreds of other candidates who also want to work from home, so if you ruin your reputation with one company, somebody will be in the wings waiting to take your place. When you are deciding to work from home, take an accurate assessment of your abilities prior to applying for jobs. Certain work at home jobs will require certain skills and not every company will provide training. For instance, if you need to brush up on your typing skills, hold off on applying for any transcription jobs, which require fast typing speeds and accuracy. Many people earn a full time income by working at home as independent contractors. If you approach this opportunity with a plan in mind and you are willing to be patient and learn new skills, you can achieve success.

Work At Home to Supplement Your Income
Many people work from home full time and earn a nice income to support their families. Even if you have a regular job with a steady paycheck, finding a work at home job to do during your off hours can add some extra income to your bank account. The beauty of using work at home jobs for extra income is that you still have the steady paycheck coming in to pay your bills and living expenses. Those who work from home full time sometimes need to work for three or four companies because the hours and work can be sporadic, thus making pay periods irregular. Anyone over the age of 18 who has some computer skills can work from home. The most popular work from home jobs include: data entry, typing, network marketing, call center customer service, or online surveys. Most of these services, depending on the company that hires you, can accommodate late night hours. College students can earn enough extra money for a semester of textbooks. Moms or dads with families can earn enough to save for a vacation or pay off credit card debt. Retired seniors can earn enough to help pay for expensive medications. When searching for a work at home job opportunity, do some research into different companies and also honestly assess your skills. Not every company is a scam artist and they are looking for honest, hardworking people to help their business succeed. Being honest about your own abilities and experience will also prevent you from receiving a job that you are not qualified to complete. The skills you need to successfully work from home, even part time, include good computer skills and quick typing skills. If you apply for a call center position, you will be interviewed and judged on how well you speak and if you can speak, sell, and type notes at the same time. Typing from home or transcription jobs require very fast and accurate typing skills as well as good listening skills. In the work at home arena, there is no limit to how many companies you work for nor are you obligated to work for a company for a specified amount of time. If you are finishing your jobs quickly from one company, feel free to apply for a different work at home opportunity. Likewise, if work from one company seems to be nonexistent, then apply for another work at home job elsewhere. Everyone can use a little extra money so rather than having to get a second job and find more hours in your day, why not try working from the comfort of home? For just a few hours each week you can improve your existing computer skills or even learn a new skill, all while earning extra money.

The Costs of Working from Home
Working from home is a tremendous opportunity to make an income but also to save on everyday expenses. You can save money on gas, clothes, lunches out, and childcare. But before you go ahead and think you can get rich working from home, be prepared for a few out of pocket expenses. Most work at home opportunities involve computer work, so be sure you have an updated and virus-free computer. A trip to the local computer specialist to clean off your hard drive might be in order or you may have to update your software. A good bookkeeping software program is a must now that you need to track your own earnings, taxes, and expenses. Keeping your computer in good working order and virus free is extremely important if you want to successfully work from home, so the purchase of anti-virus software may be necessary too. Do some research and make an informed decision rather than just purchasing the cheapest software. If the cheap software does not protect your computer, you may be unable to work for many days, or even weeks, for which you will not be paid. High speed or digital internet access is a must for people working at home. Trying to download files of any kind, written or audio, will be a nightmare with dial-up service. Check your local telephone or cable companies to determine who offers the most reliable service for the least monthly cost. Typing or transcription work is a very popular work at home opportunity but some companies require the use of a foot pedal and/or a headset. A special software program may also be necessary, depending on the company and their practices. Although the company will offer a referral or links to these items on their websites, these purchases will be out of pocket costs for the new employee. When you start your search for work at home jobs, you will undoubtedly discover various directories of companies that offer work from home opportunities. Even though this is another expense, these directories will cut down your research time tremendously! After all, someone already scoured the internet looking for these companies to add to their directory. The boring work has been done for you, which makes a directory such a useful tool. Another way to work from home is to choose a multi-level marketing company (MLM) or a network marketing opportunity. With MLM you will do less computer work but your expenses will come with whatever consultant package your company requires you to buy. Catalogs and business cards are additional expenses. With network marketing, if you are selling a product or service, very often you must also be a customer with a monthly purchasing quota. No matter what type of work at home opportunity you choose, be aware of possible upfront or monthly expenses before you enter into any agreement. Do the math and also figure out how long it will take or how many new customers you will need to earn that money back so you can start seeing a profit for your hard work.

How to Start a Home-Based Business
Owning a home based business gives the business owner a lot of freedoms. You can choose a line of work that makes you happy, you can choose who to work with as clients, and you can possibly become debt-free by eliminating the need for childcare and a work wardrobe. Now that you have decided to start your own home-based business, you need to select what type of business you want. Do you want to sell products or do you have a service to offer? Also be realistic about your abilities. Word of mouth recommendations often make or break home based businesses so be sure you are supplying your customers with quality work. Writing a business plan is crucial to seeing your business succeed. Very often small business owners are afraid of this step or think they can skip it because they are working from home. In fact, quite the opposite is true. Many opportunities abound for the home based business owner and if you follow your business plan, you will know which opportunities will be worth your time and which would be a waste of money. Consider the business plan your roadmap to success. As part of your business plan, consider how much money you will need to start your business. Some common expenses include: computer, bookkeeping software, legal fees, insurance premiums, domain name, web hosting, web design, advertising and promotions, and supplies. These costs will vary as will your needs, depending on which type of business you are starting. A common mistake that home based business owners make, especially if they have an online business, is not checking out the zoning laws in their town. Different towns have different rules about what kinds of businesses can be run from home, so call your town clerk's office for clarification. Taxes will play a large role in your business so do research ahead of time. If necessary, find an accountant who specializes in home based businesses. Find out if you need to charge state tax and when the deadlines are for filing your taxes. Many states also have a self-employment tax so ask lots of questions and fully explain your business plan to the experts so you can get accurate tax information. Now that you are ready to open your doors, you need a plan for attracting customers. Word of mouth is very important but you need that first customer before that starts to happen. A complete marketing plan will include ways in which people will learn about your home based business, such as fliers posted in your town, handing out business cards to your neighbors, or networking with other business owners. Once the basis of your home based business is set, you will need a personal family plan. How many hours each day do you plan to be available for clients? What happens when the kids get off the bus? Who will drive them to after-school activities? Will your clients mind if they hear children's voices in the background of a conference call? Keep in mind that once you open your doors for business, you will still need to work hard to provide quality work and advertise your home based business. But the hard work will certainly pay off when clients start hiring you and you can work in the comfort of your own home!

Avoiding Loneliness While Working At Home
The ability to work from home - whether it's a home based job or business - is the chance of a lifetime. No more childcare expenses, no more office politics, no more commute, no need for the latest wardrobe fashions. Instead it's a time to take control of your life, learn some new skills, and gain important experience about following deadlines and pleasing customers. You become your own boss and are also responsible for following your clients' orders. You no longer need to worry that someone else will take credit for your hard work or new idea. While many people thoroughly enjoy the freedom of working from home, a common complaint of home based business owners is that feeling of loneliness or disconnect from the outside world. Along with no more office politics, you also do not have the early-morning office banter over coffee. No more chatter about the score of last night's game or the latest twist on some television series. Networking is a key component to defeat this lonely feeling, no matter what type of work you do. Not only will networking get you talking to other people, it may also earn you some new clients! Home based business owners have the opportunity to network through local chambers of commerce. Once you become a member of your local chamber, you have the opportunity to promote your business through chamber events. These events may be networking dinners with other members or community-sponsored events during which you can tell local residents about your business. If you work at home doing online work, you can also join your local chamber of commerce if you want to expand your market locally. There is no requirement that members must have a brick and mortar business to join. Social networking online is also another fun way to make friends and network with other people. Such sites as Twitter, Stumble Upon, Facebook, and My Space allow you to make a profile, follow other people, and leave comments. This is quite a bit different from physically talking to people but nevertheless, contacts are made. Having a flexible schedule also allows the home based business owner the chance to join school or church committees, some of which might meet during the day. Getting out of the house and exchanging ideas with other adults is invigorating. Even just taking your children to the playground and talking with other parents can help you feel connected to the community. As with anything else, forming new friendships and interacting with other people takes work. A bit of restraint is also necessary, especially with the social networking sites online. Many home based business owners have voiced complaints that they spent so much time chatting online that no work was accomplished! Networking is good but not if the quality of your work suffers. As you decide what kind of work at home job or business to pursue, think of some ways you can combat loneliness. Finding your balance between work and social activities is important for your own health and the success of your work at home venture.

Work At Home Jobs Equal Freedom for Moms
Mothers of all ages often find themselves caught between the proverbial rock and hard place. They want or need to work but worry about finding reasonably priced childcare or they have lost their computer skills after being out of the workforce for a number of years. Luckily, work at home jobs can often be the solution to these worries. New mothers are freed from the expense and worry about childcare if they find a work at home job or start their own home based business. Many home based jobs have a flexible schedule so mothers can work while their children nap or are asleep for the night. They can also be home when their kids get off the bus and they do not have to worry about the quality of care at a daycare center. With the flexibility of a home-based job, mothers can also take their children to doctor's appointments as needed without worrying about not getting paid. For many data entry and type at home jobs, so long as the work is done accurately, it can be finished in the middle of the night if necessary. For stay-at-home mothers who are ready to re-enter the workforce, they are free to learn the latest computer programs at their own pace while earning money with a home based job, such as data entry, typing, or online paid surveys. Even if the pay is not equal to a full-time salary, this experience can also help rebuild an outdated resume while providing money for groceries each week. Because they have flexible schedules, moms who work at home can have more time to attend school fieldtrips or functions. They can get to know their child's teacher better and be more attentive to how their child is performing in school. Children are also safer having a parent home when returning from school, rather than entering an empty house alone. Moms who work at home are also free to pick and choose which jobs they want to accept. More and more companies are learning the value of the work at home employee so more opportunities become available each month. For instance, if you want to earn more than you are making with online paid surveys, then you are free to try data entry jobs or even do both jobs. Work at home jobs also free mothers to save more money to support their families. Common expenses such as a work uniform, new wardrobe or gas money add up month after month and can never be recouped. Work at home moms, however, often work in their jeans and sweatshirts and save gas money by not having a commute. There are numerous benefits for mothers who work at home. With the popularity of working from home, any mother can find a work at home job if she is determined to learn something new and is responsible enough to follow deadlines.

Can You Really Type At Home and Earn Money?
The internet is changing the way the world does business. Tasks that once required a person to be in an office and on a typewriter can now be done from anywhere in the world and be sent immediately when they are finished anywhere else in the world, in a matter of seconds. What this means for many is there are additional opportunities for full or part time work and doing it from the comfort of your own home. How is it possible? Companies need data entry help and can often find it cheaper by outsourcing it to those that can work at home rather than paying bodies to fill seats within an office space. More and more companies are virtual, but the reality of it is, things still need to be typed. There are a few ways that you can make money with type at home jobs including filling out forms online, data entry work, and transcription. The only requirements? The ability to type, a computer, and internet access. Start off by doing your research. You'll find many companies that, for a small fee, will give you access to legitimate companies that will compensate you for posting classified ads online. The fee is insignificant compared to what you'll make if you approach typing from home in the right manner. Additionally, if you're a writer, there are many companies who will pay you for researching and writing quality articles for their websites. Website owners know that content is king and that they need fresh content to promote their websites. Hiring ghost writers is the easiest way for them to accomplish this task. Transcription is another way to type at home and earn a living. If you're an experienced transcriptionist, you are ahead of the game when applying with various companies. But don't think that you'll have an automatic in. When technology advanced so that we could send audio files across the internet with just a few clicks of the mouse, transcription training centers also started appearing in droves. If you are interested in taking a transcription course, thoroughly research the options that you have. While price may be a big factor, the quality and benefits of the program should reflect what you are paying. Work at home Data entry jobs are also available online and as with the typing and submitting of classified ads, you'll want to thoroughly research the company especially if there is a fee to sign up. If typing is your thing, why not consider starting your own typing business? Start with the local colleges and charge to type up term papers, power point presentations, or essays. You could also network with small business owners in your area that do not have office assistants. There are many opportunities out there to type at home and get paid for it. Simply do a web search on " work at home data entry" or "type at home" and you will have many sites to research. Find one, or a few that work for you and you'll be well on your way to working at home by typing.

Multi-Level Marketing Can Bring You Big Rewards
While doing research on ways to earn income from home, you've probably stumbled upon the term multi-level marketing (MLM) at least once and have wondered exactly what that entails. Think Mary Kay and Tupperware where you market and sell a product from a distributor. How can you benefit from this? Think of a product that you already believe in. If you're a fan of Mary Kay cosmetics already, there's an initial reward to multi-level marketing if you sign up to be a consultant because you'll be able to purchase products at a discount. There are initial costs associated to sign on as a distributor or consultant with a company and they typically cover quality marketing materials and a starter kit to help you get going with your new found business. MLM companies are great for stay-at-home-moms who simply want to supplement their income or for people who have full time jobs who want to earn additional money. Once associated with a MLM company, you'll need to start networking so that you can get your product in front of people. You can do this a multitude of ways from calling those in your address book and setting up a demonstration to joining a networking group to get the word out that you are now their go to person for this particular product. There is no glass ceiling with income potential with MLM companies; the sky's the limit! You'll get out what you put in, but more often than not, most consultants make a decent amount of money simply doing a few shows each month. In addition to selling the products yourself, another goal is to start a successful downline, or people who sign up under you to sell products. Don't think of it as competition because the people that sign up under you will have their own set of contacts to pull from when making sales. The more successful you are at training them and setting them up for success the more you'll make. One of the biggest rewards of multi-level marketing opportunities is the ability to be your own boss and set your own hours. You don't have to report on how much time you spent marketing the product and there are no set hours that you have to work, meaning you can be flexible and work when you want to. No more long hours if you don't want them! MLM opportunities are out there. Not a makeup fan? That's okay, because there are a plethora of products out there from health care products, to beverages, to supplies that you can use in the home. Find a product that you believe in and it will be easier to make the sale and build a strong downline to boost your income.

Affiliate Marketing and Residual Income: Earning Money for the Long Haul
So you're up and running with your website and now it's time for the long term planning. Perhaps you've seen a slow but steady increase with your affiliate income but you want to add to it. The adage of "if you build it they will come" may have been true in the movie "Fields of Dreams" but it won't work online. As with any other venture you might take on, it takes time to get it going and it takes time and effort to keep it going. If your website is up, assess the content that you have. Content is key in gaining web traffic. More traffic equals more sales, so load as much content as you can that would be pertinent to your visitors to continue earning more money. You can look for private label rights (PLR) articles, free for reprint articles, write articles yourself or hire a ghost writer. Make sure your articles are either promoting a product that you are an affiliate of or promoting your website. In addition to content, keeping in contact with your visitors is also profitable in the long run. How can you keep track of your visitors? You could start a mailing list to alert them of new content or send out a newsletter on a regular basis. Starting a newsletter will allow you to draw them back when you have something new to say. It will also aid in telling your visitors of new deals or products that you've found that they might be interested in. Don't wait for them to come back, tell them the minute that you know. Starting a blog will help with updated, fresh content as well as an outlet for you to show the personal side of you that your visitors can relate to. You can use your blog platform for opinions, articles, product reviews, and paid advertising. For residual income, a membership site may be the next step for your venture. You can set up a forum or special, member's only section for paid subscribers. This will bring in more residual income. Make sure that you continue to add to your member's only section so that your subscribers will keep coming back. If you're looking for even more ways to branch out, consider writing an eBook or special report that you can give to your visitors that they can, in turn, pass along to their friends and family members. In your report you can include affiliate links and market your website and the various components that your site has to offer. A note about affiliate links that was learned the hard way. So many times we distribute reports, eBooks, articles, etc with an affiliate link in it directly from the vendor. Redirect your links from your site so that if for some reason the link is no longer valid a few years from now, you can still bring those clicking back to your site or redirect them elsewhere. Think of how much money you'll be missing out on if the links that you have out there are no longer valid! Earning money online though residual income works best when you plan and get everything in order. The time you spend upfront will be labor intensive though research, building websites, marketing, but with the right plan, you'll be kicking back and watching the money pour in with very little maintenance on your part.

Do Online Paid Survey Opportunities Really Pay?
Opinions...every body's got one, right? How would you feel about getting paid to tell others what you think? Seem to good to be true? It's not. Online paid survey opportunities are a viable income source. The question remains of how much you can earn by participating and the answer is: it varies. Legitimate companies can offer anything from an entry in a sweepstake drawing up to $25 depending on the contents of the survey and how long the survey takes to complete. Most research online shows the average survey pays between $2 and $10. There are also companies that offer reward points for completing surveys online (and/or occasional via mail or phone) in which you can save up your points to cash in on a gift certificate or other prize of your liking from their selection. In addition, some companies will offer you a free product in exchange for your opinion. How can this be possible that people are willing to pay you for your opinion? It's all about market research. Larger companies have the tools and the medium now to reach out to the end users, to see what they want and don't want in produces, and who exactly their target markets are and they aren't afraid to pay big bucks for it. Not only are they looking for information and opinions of those 18 years of age and older (the minimum age for most survey companies) there are numerous survey companies for teens and children as well. To get started, know that legitimate survey sites are free to join, however, if you're limited on time to do the research to weed out the best paying, most reliable survey sites, it might be beneficial to pay a company who does all the back end research for you. You'll be able to make back your investment in no time at all. Most likely by completing just one survey. Also, create a separate email address for your survey endeavors. Once you establish yourself with the research companies, you will start to see more and more requests come in for surveys they would like for you to take. Organizing your email before you begin will alleviate the headaches of too much email in the long run. Once you've signed up with a few online paid survey sites, make sure that you complete your profile. Surveys are sent by matching criteria within the survey to your demographic profile. The sooner this is filled out, the sooner you will start receiving surveys. As with any job, you'll need to establish your reliability. Start off by completing all requests that are sent to you, even if there is no cash reward offered. By doing so, you'll show the company that you really do want to offer your opinion and in turn, the larger paying surveys will soon follow. While you won't get rich quick with survey taking, you can pocket enough to supplement the main household income, have a little fun money or money to save for a rainy day. You'll get out of it what you put in and as with any online venture, do your research. It will pay off in the long run.
