Many people these days have made the smart decision to start working from home. If taken seriously and thought out carefully this can be a rewarding and positive experience. Even for those who are lucky enough to find success at home sometimes things can be a bit overwhelming, especially if you are not skilled in the art of organization.
Luckily there are many ways to stay organized and keep track of the projects that you have worked on and are working on right now. Since this is the age of technology the first line of defense in keeping track of things is the computer. Today’s computers come equipped with software already installed to aid us in keeping track of projects and schedules.
There are also programs on the internet for free or for a nominal fee that can also help keep track of outstanding projects and clients. Google has “organize files” and you will come up with a list of links that can make organization a snap. Most of them differ in style, what they are able to accomplish and cost, so look into a few of them and decide what would be best for you and fits into your budget.
If downloading links from the internet makes you a bit leery you can also purchase software from a computer store and download it yourself to your computer. Again these products also vary in price and functionality so do your research so you are not disappointed.
The computer of course has proven itself to be a great asset to keeping track and organizing projects but what if you need to be away from home and away from your computer? In came the handheld computer phone. Now we are able to have a small handheld device that can do almost as much as the computer at home.
This allows you to add information, delete information, move files around all with just a touch of a button while on the go. These devices allow you to make last minute decisions, calls, and search info without the worry of forgetting about it by the time you get back to your computer.
Though we have discussed how technology can help us stay on track of things there are some who just prefer paper, pen, and a good sturdy file cabinet. The learning curve being next to nothing, keeping good notes and separate files on each of your clients can be preferable for some. Just as long as you stay on top of things and update often this can be a no cost solution that can keep everything organized and on track.
Basically you must decide what you prefer, what you can afford, and what works best for your situation. Making the right choice will keep your files updated, clients happy, and your life hassle free for the life of your business, which will hopefully be many years to come.

I used to find it difficult to organize my files, especially working off several different computers. I often had to email myself a file off one computer to get it onto another! But with the webtop it’s perfect. I upload files and documents and can access them from anywhere. They are organized on the Internet, so I just need a computer with online access. Plus it’s a great way to back up files.
I recently came across your blog and have been reading along. I thought I would leave my first comment. I don’t know what to say except that I have enjoyed reading. Nice blog. I will keep visiting this blog very often.
