Do be careful when looking for a home business opportunity to avoid possible scams. There are real home business opportunities out there; you just have to be very careful when looking for them by doing some research before getting involved.
Do get a W-9 tax form – This is a tax form for independent contractors and is beneficial to you come tax time when you have to clarify your earnings! This means that the company you are working for is a legitimate Internet business opportunity because they report to the IRS.
Do have a home office – This is especially true if your home-based business involves you having to use the phone. Make sure you have a quiet room in your house away from kids and animals and other distractions so you can project the professional that you are.
Do follow a schedule – Because you are working from home, you may think you can do things at any time and yes, you can. But, if you set up a schedule and stick to it each day, you will find you get more done. When running a work at home program you can easily get distracted away from your work.
Do keep records – If you don’t have a filing cabinet, either go buy one or make one out of a dresser drawer because you need to keep all your records. Keep records of everything you do and a timetable of when you performed the tasks. This is very important when being compensated for your home business.
Don’t give your personal information – If you are ever asked for your personal information for a home-based business opportunity, wait before you give that out. The big one is your social security number, if someone gets a hold of that along with a little bit of seemingly harmless information, they can become you. Do a little background check on the company before you give out any information of that nature.
Don’t assume you will always have work – This is where many people are hit the hardest. You may have weeks; even months, where you are always busy and have things to do. You may be making some great money during this time as well but, for all the weeks you are busy, there will be weeks where you have nothing. Home based businesses go through the same ebb and flow as any other company to, put some money away when you can to get through the slow times.
