Email marketing is a tremendous way to build a home based business. But there is always the risk of your message being flagged as SPAM which could cause serious harm to your business, or at the least, get your message deleted or ignored. Successful email marketers know the importance of crafting powerful subject lines when using email messages to build their home businesses.
The subject line should be straightforward and give a true indication of what the message is about. With all the garbage email received every day, legitimate messages have a slim chance of being opened unless home business owners use a nicely crafted subject line telling the reader what’s inside. Grab the reader’s attention to get your message opened.
Email copywriting and creating a good subject line is an art for online marketers. There is actually some psychology involved, and it’s not a simple game. But the value of email marketing in gaining new customers and enticing your old ones with new and exciting offers makes it worthwhile. The overhead is very low and you can reach thousands of customers and clients within seconds. Email messages are viral and word spreads quickly so you can easily track your response rates.
When marketing your business with email, make them personal, just as if you are writing to one other person. In fact, think of a person you know and write your message and subject line to him or her. If the subject line seems odd, off that message will go to the SPAM box.
Consider email marketing as relationship building with your customer. Subject lines should be inviting and interesting. It’s important how you make your customer feel about your product or service. And it’s the subject line that tells the recipient whether to delete or open your message. So making the subject line simple, consistent and straightforward is the key.
Let your subject line describe what your message is really about rather than using fancy or crazy phrases. Avoid the word “free” when crafting a subject line for your home business emails. If you’re sending an ezine, which does have the highest open rates, add the name of the ezine and even the issue date in the subject line.
Avoid using the same subject lines over and over since this will cut down on open rates. Before you write a subject line, consider what it is you really want to say. Using first names doesn’t have much affect on getting your message read. Though now some researchers claim that using a geographic location such as a city name can increase the rate of opening.
You will need to consider what program your recipient uses for email. Some email clients to truncate the subject line making whole an unreadable mess. For this, you need to send samples and test your messages for length. Setting a deadline or adding an “urgency factor” does make for a good subject line. But make it conversational, not rigid or condescending.
Whatever you do, once you find the proper balance and learn to craft subject lines that get your messages opened, you’ll discover just how much email marketing can improve your home based business long term.
