If you were recently laid off from work, or lost your job, or if you’re just not satisfied with what you do, you may have decided to look for a job on the Internet. An Internet based job will allow you to work from home, spend more time with your family, and still earn a good income. So how do you find a job online? Here are some tips to help.
• Post your resume online. Visit freelance sites like eLance and other sites that will allow you to post a resume outlining your qualifications and search through job postings for potential work. Some sites require you to bid on freelance work; others are direct links to contractors. Choose the method that works best for you, or try them both since both are viable options.
• Network. Post notes on twitter and Facebook to let others know you’re looking for at home or telecommuting jobs on the Internet. Many times someone you know will have a job lead, or may even want to hire you for a project they have themselves.
• Visit discussion forums in your field of interest. If you’re looking for website design work, for instance, visit forums that cater to website designers as well as those frequented by Internet marketers who may be interested in your services.
• Check the search engines. Search specifically for “jobs online” (including the quotes) or “website designer jobs online,” for instance, to narrow your results. You can also search for “freelance jobs” or “telecommuting jobs” and find hundreds of possibilities.
• Start a blog. Blogging lets people get to know you and your attitudes, and even see a sample of your skills. Post your resume, the fact that you’re looking for work, your job strengths, and a portfolio, if applicable. Keep it professional, however. You don’t want a potential job to fall by the wayside because the company execs saw your Saturday night party pics posted online.
• Use caution when you search. Be especially wary of sites that require you to pay for job leads. While there are legitimate online job firms that require payment for connecting employers and contract workers, there are just as many–if not more–who don’t. Try them first, especially if money is tight.
• Having trouble finding a job on the Internet? You may need to upgrade your skills. Take an online class. Read several recent books on the subject. Volunteer your time with a firm who will help you build your resume. Increase your employability in some way.
Whatever you do, realize that finding a job on the Internet can be a profitable and rewarding option for someone who wants the joy of working from home with the ability to get paid week after week, right from the start.
