If you’re going to run a business from home, you need to understand what it is you’re selling. It’s not just enough to know you’re selling Tupperware, Cosmetics, Cleaning Products or whatever it is you’ve chosen. The most important thing you must do is learn everything about your products. Not just the cost and the name.
Let’s use cosmetics as an example. Naturally your own experience with various products will help you in some ways, but you need to know the colors, sizes, life expectancy, textures, functionality and prices of every product in your range.
It’s easy to miss a sale if a potential customer asks you a question you can’t answer. Obviously it’s difficult to know all the details about every single item, but it’s vital you keep a master reference catalogue for yourself and have it marked in sections.
Then you can find answers if you don’t already know them. No answer means fewer sales. Eventually you will learn more. You won’t have to rely on your written material as much, except for product updates and additions.
You must also have personal knowledge of the products you sell. It’s harder to sell something if you can’t truthfully explain how it works, or in what situations its best used. You have to either use the products yourself, or keep in close contact with your customers and encourage their feedback, so you can build your knowledge.
If a new customer needs advice on how to use a certain mascara or eye liner, and you only know what’s written in the catalogue, there’s less chance of a sale.
Always be confident in what you’re doing. Believe in your products and use them. Wear them when making a presentation as that speaks volumes in terms of proving you’re “walking the walk.” Your audience will notice things like that. If you’re trying to push certain items, try to be wearing some of them. That will encourage questions and inevitably lead to sales.
When you combine your self confidence, your product knowledge and personal use, you’ll be able to easily discover ways to make sales simply by asking the right questions and letting the customers talk themselves into making the purchase.
Customers hate pushy salespeople. You’ve probably experienced the feeling when you walk into a store and, within ten seconds, a sales assistant appears and asks if you need help. If you tell them you don’t, they will hover until you decide you do want help or you move away. So don’t be too pushy.
However, don’t be too embarrassed to ask for the sale. You know the products you’re marketing are great. Otherwise you wouldn’t be selling them. Don’t be scared to ask for the sale.
Once you’ve secured that sale, take it a step further. Suggest the purchase of another product that goes well with the first one. The worst thing they can say is no. But if they agree, then you have made more money and created a happier customer.
Without expert product knowledge and a high level of self confidence, you won’t become successful. Work smart today and you can reap the benefits later.
Taking the plunge and deciding to work at home can be a very exciting yet overwhelming decision. You want to make sure you made the right decision since we tend to second guess ourselves. Every home business looks like the “right” home business and we don’t want to make a wrong decision.
So, how do we make sure that what we are doing is the right way to go? We have seen many people show success from working at home but also failure. These are 5 points to consider before beginning a home based business.
1. How long has the business been around? A lot of “pre-launch” and brand new businesses can be extremely enticing, but you must use discretion when it comes to this area. Usually a business needs to be running successfully for between 2-5 years.
When you choose a business that has been around this long you have a better chance of being successful and for the business to still be operational down the road. If you are starting a business of your own, make sure you research the business and get an idea as to how many have been successful at it before you.
2. Are you committed? Whatever business you choose you need to make sure that you intend to be committed 100% to that particular business. If you are entering a business that has already been operating and entering as a representative, or you are starting your own business this still must hold true. You are beginning a journey. This journey will have its ups and downs and no matter what the situation you need to be committed to see it through till the end.
3. Is this your passion? With the vast array of different businesses out there, you need to choose one that is your passion. This is an important point as you will easily lose interest and focus if this is not your passion. You may ask; how do you know if this particular business can be classified as a passion?
To decipher if this is something you can truly be passionate about you must gauge your interest and desire. If this is something that you desire being successful at and have a long term interest in, then you definitely can say it is a passion of yours. Due to this fact you have a better chance at being successful, and dealing with both bad and good days throughout your journey.
4. Speak to others. Obviously you are not the first and you will not be the last to enter the world of home based businesses. Before you jump in with both feet it is a good idea to speak to others.
You will want to target people who have started this particular business before or who have worked with this company before. Speak to them about the good points of the company but also the bad. You want to be as well informed as possible before taking such a big step in your life.
5. Know your budget limits. Let’s face it, it takes money to make money so beginning your new adventure will definitely cost you something. Before you begin you need to have an honest look at your finances. Know what you will be able to afford for your business from the get go.
More than likely it will take at least 6 months before you see a profit, and that is if you market, advertise and promote heavily. All of these things cost money so be well informed about the company before taking the plunge or signing on the dotted line.
Starting your own home business or becoming a representative for one is a major step in anyone’s life. Of course your goal is to be successful, so enter a business wisely. Be well informed, speak to people, stay committed and know your personal budget limits. If you follow these simple suggestions you are headed down the path to success.

Being able to stand out from the crowd of websites online in your home based business is vital to the success of any online business model. While there is a large market for business information, there are already hundreds of business owners already beating the same drum. Through clever marketing, you can make yourself stand out from the crowd and become a success.
The main point in marketing your home based business is to make your product or service appear so unique and special that they stand out in a sea of like business models.
There are a number of ways this can be done and here are a few of them:
Target Your Market Niches: through clever marketing, you can greatly increase the likelihood of adding more and more customers each and every day. Creating targeted ads will help you gain a larger customer base over time and ensure your continued growth.
Stay Focused on Your Product: Too many times a business will begin to branch into an area in which they are not specifically prepared or have the needed expertise. When this happens, the focus of the products and services begins to slip and so does the customer base. This type of branching can cause a business to fail miserably if not done properly.
Authority Sells: You have to make your home based business company appear as they are the highest authority on the product or service you are planning to offer. Remember that you are not the only person to do what you do, and you have to instill in your potential customers that sense of expertise. Why would they choose #3 when they can have the best?
In relation to this, everyone wants the best information available and as long as you have this expertise in your area, you can ensure you offer the best. This will set you apart from the competition and give you that extra edge to come out on top in your chosen area.
Be Creative: Don’t settle for the same exact line of marketing forever. As with anything else, marketing ideas have a lifespan and if you run too long with one particular ad, you risk becoming boring and repetitive. This will drive people away from your home based business.
Likewise, if you do make a change to a very successful marketing campaign, you want to make sure it’s not too early as it can have the same effect as not changing it. Sometimes the consumer becomes attached to a marketing style and when there is a change, they may feel betrayed or abandoned by your company. They will then do the same to you.
Your Reputation is Everything: Your reputation can pull you through tough times as long as it’s a good, solid, and reliable reputation. If your customers know you will always stand by your promises, services, and products they will continue to be your patrons and purchase from you. Once you lose your reputation, or gain a bad one, your sales will begin to fall drastically.
These are but a few things you need to consider if you want your home based business to be a long-term success.

For many of us it’s a dream come true to be able to work a business from home. To not be under anyone’s thumb and to have our own schedule may be something we always hoped for.
Sometimes though working from home can be a hindrance rather than a help. Rather than being in our home office working diligently throughout the day, we get sidetracked. Whether it is a ringing phone, neighbors at the door, our children or our spouses demanding attention, we don’t get as much work done as we should.
It may be as easy as learning some time management skills to manage our time a bit more efficiently. Here are 5 simple tips to hopefully make things a bit easier.
1. Make a list. Each day you will want to prepare a list on what you need to accomplish throughout the day. As strange as it may sound, this provides you with a tangible list that you can check off tasks as you complete them. As you begin to check certain things off it will provide you the motivation to remain focused and finish what needs to be done for the day.
2. Don’t bite off more than you can chew. Make sure that what you want to accomplish each day is reasonable. To think that you may be able to accomplish a tremendous amount of tasks may be unreasonable. Set a goal that will be obtainable and that you can reach without losing focus or getting sidetracked.
3. Attempt to multi task if possible. If at all possible try and do two things at once to save time for the day. An example is if you can make an important phone call and finish up reading a document while on hold. This will cut your busy time in half and ultimately manage your time much more effectively.
4. Take regular breaks. Now this does sound a bit contradictory but it actually does help improve time management skills. People who tend to sit at a desk for hours on end attempting to get important work done are easily distracted and lose focus. If you take scheduled 10-15 minute breaks throughout the day where you get up and leave your desk, you will return feeling rejuvenated and more focused. You will then be able to accomplish more work after taking that break than if you had sat there for the entire time.
5. Take time to relax. In the world today most of us lead stressful and busy lives. Our business is very important to us and we spend most of our time to develop it so it will be successful. In addition to working hard to grow our business we must take the time to relax also. If we learn to manage our time more effectively we will be able to focus on another priority, ourselves.
Having a home business and working from home may be the dream that you are striving to accomplish. It can be everything we hope for or a disaster depending on how we handle it. If we learn to manage our time better it will making managing our own home business just a bit easier and success will come to us that much faster.
