While it’s great to start and run your own home based internet business, if you don’t get traffic and visitors to your website, you’re really just spinning your wheels. But money for advertising can be non-existent in the early days so you have to be creative about promotion. Here are some indirect ways to promote your business and gain more traffic for your site.
Getting one-way links is always preferable to link exchanges and getting links on the top 10 or 20 Websites that use the same keywords and phrases you use is ideal. You can, of course, buy ad space on those sites, but usually there are more affordable, i.e., free, ways to connect.
1. Follow them on twitter and respond to their posts so you can build a relationship. Re-tweet some of their posts and give them a chance to get to know you. While it may not provide a direct link to your site, building a relationship will always make for good results in your marketing efforts.
2. Join their forum and become a regular participant. Be sure to include a signature file with a link to your website that is automatically added to every post. Then post. Ask and answer questions, comment on other member posts and become a part of the community, in general.
3. Offer the webmaster a free ebook you wrote or own rights to as a giveaway to their visitors. You can then ask her to link to the book on your website or include contact information and a link in the book itself. Ideally, they’ll do both!
4. Post an ad in their free classifieds.
5. Sign their guest book and include a link to your site in your signature.
6. Subscribe to their blog posts and leave a valuable comment on a post you enjoyed or found helpful.
7. Suggest a joint venture proposal where you promote each other’s products or services and link to each other’s Websites.
8. Suggest a thank you page swap. You put a link to their site or ezine on your thank you page and they do the same for you.
9. Trade ezine ads or website links. You can throw in some bonus ads if they get more traffic than you.
10. Write a positive review of their site, products or services and publish it on your blog or website. You can let the webmaster know you wrote it and send them a link inviting them to link to the review on your site.
11. Write a testimonial about a product or service you bought from the website and include a link to your site in your signature.
12. Write an article for the site. Include a resource box at the end of the article and ask that the link be made live and clickable.
Be creative and look for ways to get your link posted on other sites. Before you know it, you’ll see a real increase in targeted traffic because the sites you’re promoting to are in the same niche as yours.
If you’ve been interested in starting your own internet based home business but have neglected to because you’re afraid of failure, take heart! There are some things you can do that will tremendously boost your chances of succeeding in working online from home.
• Build relationships first, customers second. Unlike brick and mortar marketing, marketing your internet based home business requires taking the time to get to know your customers and prospects and giving them the opportunity to know you.
• Make the most of social marketing tools. Sites like Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, MySpace, and others can help you build an online group of followers for your internet based home business who, if they learn to trust you and value your opinion, will buy what you’re selling simply because you’re the one selling it.
• Start a blog. Blogs are free tools that are worth ten times their weight in gold when it comes to building an internet based home business! Did you know that a blog post will hit the search engines almost as fast as you click “Publish”? That’s a tremendous tool for drawing visitors to your website.
• Use affiliate marketing. Starting an internet based home business from scratch can take awhile. But marketing successful programs and products created by others can jumpstart your business’s success and allow you to piggyback off the efforts of others. And who could complain about that?
• Become a part of the online forums. While you don’t want to spend all day chatting in the forums, making them a part of your daily internet based home business tasks will go a long way in building your online credibility, helping you get to know others in the field, and keeping you up to date on trends and strategies that can help your marketing efforts. Be careful about following each forum’s rules, though. You can ruin a reputation online as quickly as you can build one by abusing the system!
• Avoid so-called “get rich quick” schemes and outdated tactics that do nothing to build your internet based home business. Safe lists, Free-For-All (FFA) pages, free classifieds and scripts that post your ad to a million sites are (for the most part) a waste of time. While there are some exceptions (Craigslist, for instance), you’d be much better off to spend your time and energy on what is proven to work and leave these activities to the newbies who haven’t learned the ropes yet.
All in all, there are many things you can do to ensure success in your internet based home business. Hard work, continued learning and following in the footsteps of others who have found that success will carry you well.

The Internet is a wonderful place full of tons of information, products, services, games, and ways to meet new people from all over the world. It’s also a great place to make money and if you are planning on starting your own Internet business there are some things you need to know about how you will make your money and what you need in order to get started.
First things first, setting up your own Internet business is not as simple as some places may make it sound. You have to have a lot of the same things needed for a normal business such as:
- An idea – What will the business do? Are you offering a product or service?
- A Name – This is trickier than in the real world because your business name is tied directly with the URL people will go to when using your business. If your company name is Mike’s Tools and your website name is nothing like that, people won’t be able to find you.
- A URL – This is your website address and it needs to be the same as your company name. Take your time with setting this up because if it’s too long or too hard to remember, it won’t help you at all.
That’s a good starting point right there, if you have those three things in place you are on your way and just about ready to begin building your Internet business.
The next thing you need to do is make sure you have your payment options set up and ready to go. This means a PayPal account, the ability to take credit cards if needed and things along those lines. You always want to get the behind the scenes things set up before you go for the site.
Now the website is your next decision. What type of site will you run?
- Static website – This is a site that is designed to be static and not really change that much. This is best for websites that are linking to a real world store and not a totally Internet business store.
- Blog – This is a great way to start an Internet business that is providing a service and not so much a product. You can add constant updates and tweaks to the site to make it more and more useful and a better income generator. These are also great for websites where the main income generation is from ads and not a service you personally provide.
- Flash – You can build a completely flash based website and these are good for static service based websites. You offer a service and the site is very catchy and innovative.
These are just some things you need to think about before you even start your Internet business. There are more things you will encounter as times go on but if you get these things down first, you will have an easier time with your Internet business as time goes on.

When beginning an internet based business our success depends on how well we can market the products and/or services we have to offer. There are various ways to market ourselves that we can implement into our business to develop an internet presence. Because of the vast amount of choices that are available, deciding which is best may be a bit of an overwhelming decision.
If you are just beginning your internet business more than likely you are dealing with a limited budget as well. Due to this fact you may want to begin marketing your business using something known as Article Marketing. This has been a tried and true system for many and the best thing is it won’t cost you a dime to start.
So, what exactly is Article Marketing? Article Marketing is a system in which you would write articles relating to your business and publishing them on the internet. Others then republish your articles on their website or blog publicizing your product or services to their readers.
The more people that are redirected to your website will increase their trust and positive perception on what you are offering. What is wonderful about Article Marketing is that the articles that you write now become what are known as viral, spreading constantly throughout the internet.
Because of this you will continue to reap the benefits from your article for a very long time to come. Also because of the inclusion of back links to your website throughout your article which will lead back to your website, you will increase in the search engine listings.
Something else that you may benefit from marketing your articles is that readers may enjoy your informative article so much they may click your website link to look for more content written by you. Though Article Marketing may take a bit of time and perseverance, the benefits that you can receive are overwhelmingly positive. It is a wonderful way to promote your internet based business without spending anything but a little time and energy.
Now, one article may not provide you with hundreds of clicks to your website so you must be consistent. Most serious Article Marketers publish approximately two articles a week. A way to get the most out of your articles would be to first publish them on your newsletter or blog and then redistribute them to article directory sites on the internet.
Utilizing them in this capacity lets you achieve the most use out of the articles and the time you put into writing them as well. Always remember to make your articles well written and informative. Stay away from a hard sale pitch type of article. If your readers feel that your articles are not informative or they did not benefit by them, they will not redistribute them or visit your website for further information.
Article Marketing is a wonderful tool to market an internet based business. If you write informative articles, consistently publish them to article directories, you are bound to see an increase in clicks to your website. You will soon be known as an “expert” in what you are writing about. This will allow you to develop a strong internet presence so others know where to turn to when seeking your particular services and or goods.
Give Article Marketing a chance, you will be quite surprised with the results if you stick with it.
