Most jobs require you to go to the place of business each and every day you work so you can perform your duties. Happier employees - Generally, those who telecommute are happier and more productive employees because they can work from home. Home is where you feel most comfortable and, statistically speaking, more productive.

What do you need to be someone who telecommutes for work?

Computer - This is a given and it has to be a pretty decent one to make sure it can run whatever software you need.
A second computer - The computer you use for work should not be the same one your kids use to surf the net because if you get a nasty virus, it could, potentially, spread to your employer via the Internet.
A quiet room - You will need this in case you need to make phone calls as a part of your job.
A dedicated phone line for work - You don't want people calling you on your phone while you are on a work call.
Schedule - Just as with an office job, you need to make sure have a schedule where you can get your work done.

What are the benefits to the person who telecommutes?

Less Expense - You don't have to pay for gas to and from work, parking at work.
Office clothes - You don't need to buy them.
Taxes - Since you use your house, Internet connection, and computer for work, you may be able to write them off as business expenses for work.
Commute - The commute from your bed to the office is normally less than 1 minute.

Are there any drawbacks to telecommuting? You may have less interaction with people your age but, with the extra time you save not driving to work, you will be able to do more things with your friends and family. So look into seeing if your job can handle some telecommuting possibilities, your boss may like the idea as well. If not fire him and begin starting a home business today!
