Working Online Can Be Easier Than You Think

Working online is a dream come true for many people. But it can be extremely challenging to manage your time working online. There are so many interesting things to do, all just a click away, that it’s easy to spend an entire day online and find you’ve not accomplished anything at all. But you can change that.

In their book, Manage Your Time, Your Work, Yourself (American Management Association, 1993) Merrill E. Douglass and Donna N. Douglass, point out that "Working faster won’t save you more time. Neither will working longer hours. But changing time-squandering behavior can..." And anyone who makes a living working online knows the truth of this statement.

Here are several aspects in time management that the Douglass’s point out can help you accomplish more than you might have believed possible. These are especially helpful ideas if you’re working online.

When Working Online Set Priorities

Set priorities. Know what you need to do and do what’s important first whether you’re working online or offline. Don’t get sidetracked by what you’d rather do. Do what must be done and then you’ll have time for what you enjoy.

Schedule activities. It’s the things that pop up unexpectedly that typically ruin our plan of action. Allow room in your schedule for fun, even when you’re working online, and you won’t be as tempted to "steal" the time from other tasks.

Analyze your time. Look closely at what you do each day as you’re working online. Note how long each task takes to finish. Look for ways to eliminate time-wasters and maximize your productivity.

Streamline When Working Online

Streamline processes. When you’re working online, you’ll have many tasks that can be streamlined. This might be filing, handling routine email, making phone calls or anything else. Look for ways to combine chores and reduce the time it takes to complete certain tasks.

Minimize interruptions. Work when the kids are in school or napping, if possible. Close the door to your office. Turn off the radio and TV. Put the dog outside. And do whatever you can to allow you to focus on working online exclusively for a time.

Working Online Leaves No Room for Procrastination

Conquer procrastination. This is one of the most difficult areas to master, whether working online or not. Most of us have a tendency to put off tasks we’re "not in the mood" to do, or simply don’t like. By taking control of your thoughts and determining to accomplish what needs to be done, you may find your job wasn’t such a chore after all. And you’ll certainly be pleased when it’s done.

There are many ways to manage your time when working online. These ideas will help you focus on what needs to change about they way you work now and put systems into place that will make every day you spend working online that much more productive.

How to Work Online and Market Offline

If you work online, you probably know some of the methods for Internet promotion of your business. These include article marketing, blogging, participating in online forums, social networking, etc. But are you aware that you can do more than just work online? You can promote your business offline just as much. Here are some ideas to get you started...

Your Work Online and the Rest of the World

When you work online, it’s easy to forget that there is a whole world of prospects offline. Create a simple flyer and post it around town on bulletin boards, utility poles and anywhere else you can to let people know about what you do.

Another good method for promoting your business offline when you work online is to have some signs made up. You can place these around town, get your friends to let you put one in their yard and give them to your customers. Like work online, it’s similar to placing ads around the web. Coupons are a great way for people who work online to promote their business locally. You can have one printed in your local newspaper or community shopper. Or check into having one included in your school coupon book. Offer a good discount or free gift to get people to respond.

Press releases are a standard offline promotional method. If you work online, take advantage of this free publicity to contact your local paper with newsworthy information about your business. Be sure to promote the fact that you’re a local resident. Your PR and all your work online will have a greater impact that way.

Being Social When You Work Online and Offline

While everyone who can work online knows how important social networking is, it’s easy to neglect doing the same thing in your own community. Find a local business networking group, or start your own, and get together weekly with other business owners to share business building information and targeted leads with each other, just like when you work online.

Becoming a public speaker may sound terrifying to some people who work online, but if you can overcome your fears, you can promote your business offline by speaking at local group meetings and clubs. Contact your local library for a list of meetings and volunteer your services as a speaker with valuable information to offer.

People who work online often forget the value of word of mouth marketing. But when you focus on promoting your business offline, it’s one of the best ways you can gain new customers. Ask friends, family members and former clients to tell others about your business and what you can offer. It’s a great way to spread the news all over town.

Of course, there are many other ways to promote your business offline even if you work online. These will get you started and help you stay aware of the opportunities for marketing your business locally when they arise, as you work online.

Promoting your business when you work online, is much the same when you are promoting offline don't be shy.

Online Part Time Work

Everyone wants to make a little extra money here and there and a great way to make this happen is through finding part time work online. There are plenty of jobs online you can do to supplement your current income and they don't take a degree or a lot of training.

This type of part time work can range from filling out surveys, reviewing products and even include freelance writing. Here then is a list of some of the more common part times jobs with both their upsides as well as their downsides.

Online Paid Surveys

Companies will pay decent money for you to take online paid surveys for them from time to time. They need the feedback from a large group of people to decide in what direction they want to move. While these don't pay a lot, they are quick and easy and you can sometimes even get a discount or the item you reviewed for free.

Another downside is the amount of time it takes to reap the rewards; some will have instant benefits, where others will take some time to accrue the rewards.

Data Entry Type Work

You could join a data entry work from home membership site and gain instant access to thousands of companies that are willing to pay home based affiliate workers to enter data into online forms for advertising purposes. This is probably one of the easiest and fun way's I've seen to make a part time income from home on virtually auto-pilot. Not only do they provide access to legitimate paying companies but they will also provide you with training too.

Product Reviews

These are a bit odd sometimes because, they are situations where you will never see the actual product you are supposed to be reviewing. You have to go online, read other reviews, and then spin the review to fit the needs of the person who wants the review. Sometimes you write a positive review and sometimes a negative one.

Freelance Writing

The Internet is a huge place and it is always in need of new stuff, even if that stuff is a rehash of other stuff. Websites need articles to keep traffic coming to them from search engines and you could be one of the people who provide this service. It doesn't matter if you know nothing about the topic at hand; all you have to do is research the topic and learn about it.

Freelance writing has the advantage as a part time job to allow you to learn something new each and every day. On the downside, you sometimes have to write about the same thing over and over or you have to write about something in a tone that goes against how you feel in regards to it. This part time job can pay very well once you have done it for a while.

Those are just some of the more common online part time jobs available to absolutely anyone. They can take a bit of time to find but once you get into the groove of these part time jobs, you can get a nice bit of extra money flowing into your bank account, which makes everything a little bit easier.
